Unless you’re deeply into Army-Navy or the FCS playoffs, this Saturday is for basketball, and it is a hell of a slate.
(How good? A top-25 matchup between Arizona and Wisconsin didn’t even rate as a Monitor for this weekend.)
Each week during the year, we’ll talk about three games on the weekend slate—one you have to see, one you have to keep an eye on and one you should avoid at all costs. It’s like a buffet, with a lower (but never zero) chance of botulism.
As always, the weekend begins at 7 p.m. ET on Friday. For the first time this season, there are no games tipping off before that time, so nobody misses out on a primetime appearance.
Must Watch (Times ET)
No. 24 Clemson vs. TCU (4 p.m., Saturday, FS1)
TCU could get absolutely murdered here, and I’ll tell you why.
The Horned Frogs have played the worst schedule in the country. Not for a power conference school; not in my estimation of what constitutes trash. TCU is 363rd out of 363 in adjusted strength of schedule to this point in the season. That is not me saying that to be mean or snarky; that is according to Ken Pomeroy’s rankings. The toughest opponent on TCU’s schedule has been a clearly-still-getting-it-together Georgetown; No. 2 would probably be… Southern? It’s grim, man. It’s as grim as you can ever think a 7-0 team can be. I have no proof that TCU can be anything and until they play a team that's at their level or above, it’s hard to imagine what passing that test might look like.
