The WCC as Tony Hawk Pro Skater characters
Only the most important subjects for the good people of Sons of Pepe
The original Tony Hawk Pro Skater game for OG Playstation had what I’d wager was a fairly unhealthy affect on my life for a while.
It’s the only video game I can see with something close to certainty I ever got addicted to. Fully, from searching cheat codes online to playing with every character on every course for hours at a time, banging my redneck head to a soundtrack* of songs that had never been played in Tennessee, where every third station was country and every fourth was gospel and every fifth was Dave Ramsey, somehow.
*-This was every redneck’s introduction to The Vandals, Dead Kennedys, Goldfinger and the Suicide Machines. The only one any of us had a clue about was Primus, and that’s because even our parents had heard Les Claypool loved weed, making Primus verboten in the home and a currency of coolness in the mean streets of Cedar Hill.
True story: at my brother’s rehearsal dinner last year, the bar we were at had one of those newfangled machines that let you play hundreds of old video games, including the original THPS. Had my parents and children and wife and a bunch of people I was allegedly supposed to mingle with not been there, I would have spent five hours devoted solely to that game. As it was, my wife grabbed me by the ear and hauled me over to new in-laws before I could even hit the 900 with Tony Hawk.
Marriage is about sacrifice, is what I’m saying. I digress.
