That Other Colorado Team
We are MILES away from competitive basketball, but Boulder has more than Coach Prime to anticipate
Colorado has never been a basketball hotbed.
This is not a referendum on the history—with three NCAA Tournament wins in the last 50 years, one conference title in the modern era and two Final Fours back in the peach basket era, this is just a truth that has happened in college basketball. Chauncey Billups is the best player in program history, Spencer Dinwiddie is No. 2 and the situation gets bleak quickly after that.
So that’s the baseline we’re operating from, one not too different from what Deion Sanders inherited on the gridiron, if you remove the excitement and the cameras and the sense that anything can and will happen. Colorado basketball doesn’t offer that, just the dimly visible neon lights of competence and manageable expectations in a place that has rarely had either.
Also not Deion Sanders—Tad Boyle! This Tad Boyle, specifically.
Tad Boyle looks a lot more like the guy who does Deion’s taxes than he does a contemporary who sits in coaches meetings with Deion.
