Only two games for Oklahoma have mattered in assessing the situation thus far in 2023. Apologies to the 20- and 30-point thonkings they’ve handed out to Central Michigan, UTRGV and others, but that doesn’t move the needle for me much yet.
The Sooners recently peaked their heads into the AP top-25 for the first time during Porter Moser’s tenure after winning the Rady Children’s Invitational last weekend in San Diego, handling Iowa with ease and stunning USC with a buzzer-beating tip-in to take down the Trojans. In a game featuring ballyhooed stars Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier, Oklahoma’s Javian McCollum might have been the best player on the floor.
Oh wow, you say. The No. 23 team in the country and an Iowa clearly still figuring a lot of things out. Oooooh, impressive.
