Eight things I learned upon descending Snowshoe
Not pictured: me attempting to not die, and almost succeeding
This is not a brag, as I am bad at skiing, snowboarding, being in the snow and being a person in general. But I went with friends and those friends, indulging as they are of my college basketball habit, had other plans than watching Temple-Houston on Sunday (I snuck into the bathroom and watched on my phone for a few minutes, Go Owls).
So here are a few things I picked up from box scores, social media, highlights and texts as I returned to the land of the WiFi-connected on Monday.
New Mexico is the truth
Full disclosure: Wrote this before Monday night’s two-overtime loss against Nevada. The Lobos are 18-3, they’re in every game until the very last second, Richard Pitino is an incredible coach and Jamal Mashburn Jr. is a cheat code. Don’t get caught slipping against them. I’m not QUITE ready to anoint them as my 2023 Providence (ie the team I love for their chaos factor and who I unilaterally adopt and love as a cherished child), but they are on the short list.
K-State is attempting a solid little-brothering of the Jayhawks
Let’s talk about this one while it lasts, because the Jayhawks lose three in a row the fourth week of every Octember and Kansas State either needs generational talent, generational coaching, an act of God or all three to be this good for any significant period of time, so the shine could go off this apple within minutes but:
The Wildcats are atop the Big 12
Kansas has lost three straight
Kansas State is unbeaten at home while Kansas has dropped on on their own court, meaning Bramlage > Phog Allen Fieldhouse is canon until proven otherwise
The Wildcats are in the top-five of a poll for the first time since December 2010
I insist you enjoy this, Kansas State. Allow this to be the balm for losing Deuce Vaughn.
